3x3 Basketball is coming to Plymouth

3x3 Basketball is coming to Plymouth

3x3 Basketball Tournament

Plymouth City Patriots are holding Devon’s first ever FIBA registered 3 x 3 Basketball Tournament on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 August 2023 on Plymouth Hoe.

With breathtaking panoramic sea views, Plymouth Hoe is world renowned and home to the Smeaton’s Tower lighthouse and is famously where Sir Francis Drake is said to have finished his game of bowls before heading out to defeat the Spanish Armada in 1588.  Arguably one of the most picturesque settings for a basketball tournament in the UK.

What is 3x3 Basketball?

It's fast, it's exciting, and is open to all. The speed of play and smaller teams means it guarantees more touches and more chances to score.  Two teams of three players compete in a half-court game, with one basketball hoop. Specific rules also apply, which make it different from the game played on a full court.   Following the success of England winning gold in the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, 3x3 Basketball is rapidly growing in the UK and worldwide.

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) promotes the game with 3x3 tournaments and players at this event can gain ranking points, enabling them to enter tournaments around the world.
