Big man Spencer Levi joins the Patriots

The Plymouth City Patriots have announced their newest signing to date, Spencer Levi. Head Coach Paul James has had a roster position to fill after the departure of Mekhii Noble.

Levi, hailing from St Louis, Missouri, USA is a 6 foot 8 inch one year pro and fierce rebounder that could give the Patriots some well needed dominance in the paint and on the glass. He heads to Plymouth via the Netherlands and Yoast United, where he played and started in thirty two games in the BNXT, a league that includes a combination of Belgium and Dutch teams. Levi averaged a double double for the season, with 10.5 points and nearly 11 rebounds per game. He led the team in rebounding and was second in the league. Levi began this season at BC Hallmann Vienna, playing and starting only a handful of games, before being made available for a move to the South West.

Prior to his rookie league in the BNXT, Levi spent five years in college in the States, playing predominantly in NCAA Division 2, but also dominating in Division 3 in his freshman year, averaging 19 points and over 11 rebounds for the University of Dallas. He continued to impress in D2, averaging 15.6 points and nearly 10 rebounds in his senior year, whilst starting for UNC-Pembroke in every game from 2020 until he graduated in 2022.

During his time in college, Levi had no shortage of accolades. In his season for the University of Dallas in D3 he was named Southern Conference Newcomer of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, whilst being added to the Conference All-First Team. For UNC-Pembroke in D2, he was named Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year whilst being added to the Conference All-Tournament Team and All-First Team, also named in the NABC All-District Southeast Second Team, all in 2022.

“He’s a fantastic addition to our club,” started Coach James, keen to get the big man integrated into the team, he added “having someone like Spencer in the lineup gives us some much needed help in the paint. He’s got a tremendous reputation as a solid rebounder and great defensive presence. Just what we need.”

It’s unlikely Levi will be available for Wednesday night's game against Sheffield Sharks, although not impossible. The club certainly hopes he will potentially make his full debut in Sunday's home game against the Surrey Scorchers. Tickets are still available for both games.
