• Boys Pathway

Plymouth City Patriots pathway has been created to enable a child with an interest in Basketball to get involved with the professional club at any age or level of ability.

From 2 years of age children can attend our Ball bubbas sessions to learn fundamental ball skills across all sports leading to Little Ballers should they want to focus on Basketball. These are all pay to play sessions where children of all abilities can come along and play. Beyond Little Ballers we have our junior basketball league which consists of a number of further pay to play sessions for ages 7-18 split into the following age groups. U12 (Ages 7-12), U14 (Ages 12-14), U16 (Ages 14-16), U18 (Ages 16-18). These sessions are paid for on a term-by-term basis and allows you complete flexibility to move between sessions should spaces be available. All these sessions will focus on basis fundamental skills to provide a good basis for developing their basketball skills.

In addition to the pay to play sessions we now have our development groups which will consist of children at a higher ability that the club have identified could benefit from further development and ultimately want to play more competitively and aspire to play professionally one day. This programme will be overseen by Coach PJ and develop the children in this programme to grow in line with the professional team and be coached by players with European and international experience. Our development programme will be structured with a view to play the “Patriots way” and provide a full pathway so that the Youth in the city are able to be developed and mentored by the professional club to prepare them for higher level basketball in regional and national competitions. Places on the pathway will be by invitation only and paid monthly over 10 months as the programme will run from Sept to June yearly.

Our Academy will also be available in Sept 22 at Tor Bridge High where we will have a fully comprehensive educational and basketball programme where children will benefit from a full curriculum of classes and basketball sessions daily to prepare them for their next step on the Pathway at Marjon University. This programme will involve basketball coaching, mentoring, S&C, video analysis and all the ingredients for children to understand what it is like to train, develop, grow, and think like a professional basketball player. Again, this is by invitation only and every entrant will need to meet minimum educational requirements of Torbridge High to attend and maintain these grades to remain in the programme. There will be an initial registration fee and monthly subscription for this academy and is open to children post 16 who would like to develop their basketball alongside studying for both A levels and BTEC qualifications.

Plymouth Marjon University are then our final link to the professional team where experience will consist of playing BUCS and National league level basketball under the Patriots banner and being coached by the professional team. Depending on ability there will be the option to get minutes on the BBL roster and commence a professional career at the club which has a track record of giving opportunities to Marjon Students who can train and learn from playing alongside seasoned professionals.

All the above is available for the first time for BOYS and GIRLS with scholarships available subject to terms and conditions

The city now has a pathway under one umbrella with the sole focus of ensuring everyone in the city has an opportunity to get involved with the sport and give everyone a clear direction and pathway of how they can achieve their basketball aspirations in the city.

  • Girls Pathway

The girl’s pathway has been created with a focus to grow girls and ladies basketball substantially over the coming years.

All the pay to play sessions within our JBL sessions are available which are for girls which are mixed up to U14s level.  In addition, we have U14s and U18s patriot’s sessions which are girls only which are operated on a pay to play basis and you would be booked on a term-by-term basis.

Girls who the coaches feel would benefit from further development will be invited to join our U12s and U14s development sessions and be part of our U12s and U14s Patriots youth teams. These will be charged on a monthly basis and be mixed sessions.

As we grow the programme over the coming 12 months, we look to add U16 and U18 development sessions and eventually as the development pathway grows, we will have more sessions across the pathway specifically for girls.

Our academy which is based at Torbridge High for 16-18 school leavers will be for both Girls and boys as a steppingstone to progressing their basketball and academic education with the opportunity to move onto Plymouth Marjon University to play ladies BUCS basketball and potentially the Plymouth City Patriots ladies team in the future.
